Protecting Lake Superior’s Shoreline Through Thoughtful Stewardship

Four Winds Lodge is a long-term conservation project on the shores of Lake Superior.
The land comes first. The forest comes first.
Stays here are not about escape — they are about preservation, stewardship, and quiet belonging..

Why Four Winds Exists

Four Winds Lodge exists to protect a rare stretch of Lake Superior shoreline and native forest by using ecotourism as a tool for long-term conservation, not exploitation. This land is being preserved slowly and intentionally — keeping the forest intact, the shoreline wild, and human impact thoughtful and limited. Every decision we make is guided by one simple principle: protect the land first, and allow people to experience it in a way that helps sustain it for generations to come.

ECO-TOURISM PHILOSOPHY

We believe ecotourism can be a force for good — not as exploitation, but as a way to fund long-term protection of land, wildlife, and local ecosystems.

Stays at Four Winds are intentionally limited, thoughtfully designed, and meant to support preservation first, experience second.

Become a Steward of the Forest

Many of you have followed the journey of Four Winds through
updates and videos from the land. The Stewardship Program is for those who wish
to participate more deeply in protecting this place

A limited number of supporters can participate in protecting the 60 acres of native forest behind Four Winds Lodge while receiving lasting benefits at the property.

Each Stewardship includes:

* Flexible lodging nights at Four Winds Lodge

* Lifetime discounted stays

* Symbolic adoption of one acre of protected forest

* Transferable nights that can be shared with family or friends

* Recognition as a founding steward of the land

Stewardships are limited and will be opened gradually as the project develops.

How Stewardship Works

Each Stewardship includes future stays at Four Winds, usable anytime, with no expiration.

Your contribution directly supports:

  • Septic and water infrastructure

  • Decks and dome construction

  • Trails, conservation work, and land stewardship

In return, Stewards receive flexible, transferable lodging time they can use themselves or gift to others.

THE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM (ACRES)

The Four Winds Stewardship Program

The land behind the shoreline — 60 acres of native forest — is being protected as a continuous, undeveloped woodland.

To help preserve it, we are opening a limited Stewardship Program.

This is not a land sale.
No property is being transferred.

Each stewardship is symbolically tied to one acre of forest, representing a commitment to its care, protection, and long-term preservation.

We are offering 60 Stewardships — one for each acre.

A Limited Program

Only 60 stewardships exist — one for each acre of forest behind the Lake Superior shoreline.

Stewardships will be opened gradually, beginning with a small group of early participants this spring.

We are opening the first 20 Stewardships as part of the initial construction phase.

STEWARDSHIP TIERS

Becoming a Four Winds Steward is a way to support long-term conservation of native forest and Lake Superior shoreline, while receiving meaningful, lasting access to the land you’re helping protect.

All stewardship levels include a symbolic adoption of one acre of forest, lifetime benefits, and flexible use of nights.

GUARANTEE & TRANSPARENCY

Stewardship Guarantee

Stewardship contributions are used directly to build essential infrastructure — including decks, septic, utilities, and the first domes — so the project can open responsibly.

To protect both the land and our stewards:

  • Nights are fully transferable

  • Stays are flexible and not tied to a specific year

  • If circumstances were to delay the opening significantly, stewardship nights may be converted to a full refund or credited forward — steward by steward, personally handled

This is a relationship, not a transaction.

A Note on Scale

Four Winds Lodge is intentionally small.
Stewardships are limited, just like the land itself.

This program is not about volume — it’s about alignment.

PHYSICAL TOKEN

A Mark of Stewardship

Each Steward receives a physical token of participation — a simple, meaningful reminder of the land they are helping protect.

This may include:

  • A limited Four Winds Steward cap or windbreaker

  • Or a small handcrafted piece made from reclaimed wood on the property

Quiet. Functional. Lasting.

Frequent Asked Questions

Is this a land purchase or real estate investment?

No. Stewardship does not involve owning land or real estate. The acreage is symbolic, representing your participation in protecting and supporting a specific stretch of native forest. All land remains fully owned and managed by Four Winds Lodge.

How is stewardship different from a regular booking?

Stewardship is about long-term support, not a single stay. Instead of booking a specific date, stewards receive: Flexible nights with no expiration. A lifetime 40% discount. Transferable stays. Priority access. A deeper connection to the conservation mission. Think of it as supporting the land first — and returning to it over time.

When can I use my nights?

Anytime, subject to availability. You can: Use nights individually or combine them. Spread them over multiple years. Share them with friends or family. Plan far ahead or decide later. Legacy Stewards receive a guaranteed week each year.

What if construction takes longer than expected?

Stewardship funds are used directly to build essential infrastructure responsibly. If circumstances were to delay the opening significantly,: Nights can be credited forward. Or converted to a full refund, steward by steward. Handled personally, not through an automated system. Transparency and trust matter here.

Will there be ongoing construction during stays?

No large-scale construction is planned during guest stays. Four Winds is not a resort build. Development is intentionally limited, quiet, and phased to minimize impact on the land.

How many stewards will there be?

Stewardships are intentionally limited. This reflects: The size of the land. The pace of development. The desire to keep Four Winds quiet, uncrowded, and personal. Once stewardship levels are filled, they will close.

Why stewardship instead of traditional financing?

Because the land comes first. Stewardship allows Four Winds to: Avoid overdevelopment. Build without rushing. Preserve forest and shoreline long-term. Stay aligned with conservation rather than short-term returns

Is stewardship right for me?

Stewardship at Four Winds is not for everyone — and that’s intentional. This program is designed for people who value long-term thinking, quiet places, and meaningful connection to land. Stewards are helping protect nearly 80 acres of native forest and 2,000 feet of Lake Superior shoreline by supporting a project that is being built slowly, carefully, and with restraint. Stewardship may be a good fit if you: care about conservation and preservation, are comfortable planning ahead, appreciate projects guided by values rather than speed, want your support to have a lasting impact beyond a single stay. It may not be the right fit if you’re looking for: immediate availability, a traditional resort experience, guaranteed short-term timelines. If you’re unsure, that’s okay. You’re always welcome to reach out with questions — or simply follow along as the project continues to unfold.
